Security has two dimensions: confronting against dangers and obtaining opportunities. For this reason, it is necessary for the security of the community to be established and for the social security to be progressed, so the dangers which threaten the community must be confronted and then the conditions for the development and improvement of society must be provided. According to sociologists, intimidation is a leverage which decreases people’s relationships and destroys their attachments and causes community decline.
Auguste Comte considers religion as one of the factors which joins and correlates people and social groups. According to him, religion provides the principle of unity creating and the common field. If there isn’t religion in community, the personal differences will break off the community. Religion lets human being to dominate on his/her selfish desires and joins community people like a powerful tie.
Edward Sapir considers religion as the continuous attempt of human being to find a way through the problems and dangers towards spiritual tranquility. According to him, there are variant ways to achieve it. However; according to religion scholars, faith is a special method in a religion and part of it. Generally speaking, various differences and tendencies in a religion are called faith
Emile Durkheim has pointed out four applications of religions investigating the main applications of religion: creating discipline, creating integrity, creating life and bestowing prosperity.
According to anthropology, religion has three main applications:
1) Religion is consisted of organized special jobs because it presumes a discipline and assume it important.
2) Religion creates safety; because mental terrors and tensions make human being achieve a tolerable level through faith, hope and justice.
3) Religion creates integrity, because it deals with morality and joins the group of the faithful to each other.
Despite of these privileges, some factors prevent the application of religion to create integrity. Religious sectarianism is one of the factors which prevents the emergence of the application of integrity creating. In this figure, religion is similar to a social group and cause citizens to be separated from each other. Religious cults divide people into several and different parts and groups.
According to Georg Simmel, there are special features of corresponding structural action in cults. The sectarian behavior believes that the members of a cult share an individualistic and secret knowledge with each other. So, they revolve beyond the daily inferior world. This issue ends in severe and individualistic fixation of cult members with each other and also separation from the affairs which are out of the cult.
For this reason, all people who are out of the cult are considered as aliens and strangers whom they must not be transacted. This is the most primary and important negative application of sectarianism. The importance of this issue is for this reason that this kind of sectarian viewpoint and behavior considers others as merited to be confronted inappropriately.
Consequently, it causes disunity in society scene. Such model of sovereignty in cults causes kinds of hostilities and excommunications.
Additionally, cults are sources of various abnormal deviant behaviors and models. They exploit kind of stimuli and field during recruiting or creating conditions for continuation of their memberships. Sexual spreading traps, ascetic behaviors, seductions of the youth, group suicides and deaths, victimizing and misusing financial and economic opportunities of the members and even sexual abuses increase public worries and decrease social security
It can be said that cults are considered as a place for the emergence of all criminal behaviors. The cult leaders also provide the opportunities and circumstances for the emergence and preaching these behaviors and train them. Consequently, cults disrupt social discipline and decrease social security through deepening or creating social gap and exploiting deviant behaviors.
Also, sectarianism plays a key role in creating political instability through creating kinds of contradictions, conflicts and violence. The sectarian violence are as follows:
1) Violence within a cult
2) Violence interior the cult
3) Violence between cult and government
There are different forms of sectarian violence such as: assassination, Kidnapping, destruction and bombing and civil riots and restlessness. Additionally, sectarianism is a suitable means and place for foreign intervention particularly for the great powers.
